It was the fall of 1967, my junior year in high school. I worked part-time in the Card Room at Abney Mill in Woodruff, SC. My job was to take the cotton waste product down three floors to a big hole on the first floor that led to a recycling machine on the basement level. I was to dump the cotton in to this hole so it could be reprocessed. On this particular day the waste product was a cotton/poly blend. You couldn’t pull it apart very easily.
